IOTA and High Mobility join forces to develop a solution for app developers and automakers, hoping to become the hub for building smart mobility services. According to a Medium post, both companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding. On the 6th of November they will present their first joint project at the IOTA Meetup.
High Mobility is a multi-award winning API platform company, focused on digital networked developer tools. High Mobility’s products are designed to facilitate collaboration between automakers and software developers. They want to become the critical software layer between the connected car and the outside world. In this interface between car manufacturers and software developers, IOTA wants to integrate the IOTA Tangle.
Smart Charge Blueprint
The first joint project, which will launch in just a few weeks, will show why agile start-ups such as high mobility are well positioned to accelerate the adoption of IOTA technology. The two companies have focused on a Blueprint for Smart Charge. They want to demonstrate how developers can build and test apps with High Mobility’s standardized Connected Car API on the IOTA platform. The initiative aims to implement the value of IOTA’s open source technology into real applications and catalyze the ecosystem of both parties.
Alisa Maas, Head of Mobility and Automotive, IOTA Foundation said:
“Over the last month the Foundation has matured its open and permissionless mobility and automotive ecosystem and an “early adopter movement” has been started. As the industry begins to recognize the huge potential of distributed ledger technology it is essential to establish collaborations that enable permanent innovation and the growth of a multi-player ecosystem. When I met the founders Kevin and Risto in 2016 in Stuttgart, I immediately liked their pragmatic approach and focus on solving real industry problems. I am convinced that bridging the gap between corporates and developers and implementing easy to use and scalable tools will solve major pain points in adoption”
Kevin Valdek, CTO of High Mobility said:
“We have seen a lot of interest from developers in combining vehicle data with distributed ledger technologies. With IOTA’s ledger and the team’s vision for future mobility, we will see it being applied by many new services. The type of applications that can be enabled with IOTA’s cutting edge technology and vehicle data are many. In the first blueprint we see not only how vehicle data can be put onto a ledger, but also how it can be combined with charging infrastructure and payments. I’m confident that this will get ideas flowing in our community,”
The Internet of vehicles
IOTA’s primary goal is to revolutionize the industry with the introduction of a decentralized Internet of Things (IoT) platform. This platform allows machines to communicate with each other and optimize their performance in real-time data exchange. And while this concept implies every type of Internet-capable machine, it seems that one of the main focuses is currently on the automotive industry.
At the bIOTAsphere event on September 27 in Toronto, Canada was presented a proof of concept for automotive insurance. Tangle exchanges real-time data with insurance companies to change insurance rates according to driving behavior.
