Ethereal Summit, one of the most impactful cryptocurrency and blockchain conference has made a decision to stand firm and extend an invitation to Deepak Chopra, a new age spiritual leader and alternative medicine advocate.
The Ethereal platform which is exclusively sponsored by ConsenSys an Ethereum development studio, which represents itself as the “SXSW of blockchain system.”
At its upcoming event in New York City, the platform expects to host at-least 2000 attendees.
The author of 21 New York Times bestsellers, Deepak Chopra has received an invite by the Summit.
Chopra has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading meditations at the conference’s “Zen Zone,” which also hosts yoga and other types of mindfulness exercises.
However esteemed dignitaries in the Ethereum community have not had a positive response towards Chopra’s inclusion at the event.
Majority of the Ethereum community believe that the inclusion of Chopra would leave a bad impact on the conference, as he is someone who is involved in the practice of pseudo-science.
Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum gave quite a controversial statement, as he went on to call Chopra a “fraud,” adding that he was “basically the [Craig Wright] of yoga.”
Amber Baldet, the former JPMorgan blockchain lead and a Scheduled Ethereal speaker likewise bemoaned Chopra’s inclusion to the summit, tweeting that the cryptocurrency world currently “has more than enough obsessive observation and it certainly doesn’t need to be exacerbated by elevating conspicuous pseudoscience.”
However, Ethereal co-founder Amanda Gutterman had completely contrasting views and even went on to defend the decision of including Chopra via a Reddit thread.
In her defense, she argued that the blockchain conference intents on presenting attendees with a different and unique variety of speakers and ideas.
Her statement reads as follows:
“I tend to think the interest from cultural figures in this technology would prove to be beneficial. Deepak Chopra is a spiritual figure who personifies an aspect that aims to bring a change worldwide by promoting health-and-wholeness guidance, which makes the ethereal conference exceptional.
She also added, “However, he is not the very first or last person whose thoughts are denied. That is not our sole purpose, but a range of different thoughts plus consensus mechanisms will aid scale innovation forward.”
It was also revealed by Gutterman that a number of events would be conducted simultaneously throughout the event, so attendees do not necessarily have to listen to any speakers they find “unwelcoming” or unconvincing.
