September was a ruthless month for most cryptocurrency prices. Few digital assets posted gains during the period, while the combined market capitalization for cryptos was little change. Check out the best and worst coin performances for the month of September.
XRP undoubtedly experienced some of the best gains last month. The third-biggest cryptocurrency saw its price appreciate more than 100% in September. The XRP price jumped from $0.27 to $0.61 at its best level of the month. It wasn’t unusual to see daily trading volume in the billions of dollars. Meanwhile, the gains were so pronounced that XRP more than once surpassed rival ETH in the ranking of cryptocurrencies based on market cap.
Another altcoin that caught the attention of the market last month was the Stellar (XLM). The No. 6 cryptocurrency based on market cap had modest gains and saw its price
jump from $0.225 to $0.26. As a result, the XLM price increased 15% last month in the cryptocurrency market. Considering so many digital assets declined in value, Stellar’s September performance is considered one of the best among the top 100 cryptocurrencies.
Tezos (XTZ), the No. 18 cryptocurrency based on market cap, was another winner. The XTZ price grew by 8% in September. Meanwhile, Tezos had a setback at one point but was able to recover, registering a 33% increase in just a few hours, according to CoinMarketCap data.
On the other hand, the month of September was not very pleasant for some cryptocurrencies. Among the worst performers, Ethereum (ETH) suffered steep declines.
The downdraft in the ETH price unfolded in August and spilled over into September, with the price dropping well below $200. The ETH price hit a low of $170 at its worst level in the last 30 days.
In addition to the Ethereum, another digital currency that experienced losses last month was EOS. The cryptocurrency saw its price shrink by 12% in September, closing the month in negative territory. The EOS price traded between $6.60 and $5.80, ending the month at the lower end of the range.
Lastly, Cardano (ADA) saw its price plummet last month. The cryptocurrency has fallen by about 20% of late. The ADA price closed the month at $0.085. Therefore, this price is well below where Cardano was trading at the beginning of the month. The ADA price started September at $0.105 and at its September low fell to $0.062.
