BitTorrent and TRON to Pay Seeders with Custom Token

TRON and BitTorrent have shared more details surrounding their collaboration since Justin Sun’s project acquired the peer-to-peer file-sharing startup earlier this year. The companies announced that seeders will be compensated for their seeding efforts, a process that is designed to strengthen the file-sharing community, with a custom token.

BitTorrent is the world’s largest file-sharing platform with more than 100 million users globally, all of which will be connected to the Tron blockchain in phase one of this initiative.  Project Atlas, meanwhile, is the name for the effort between the two projects and it’s meant to bolster the speed of BitTorrent by giving seeders an incentive to devote more resources to the process. According to a press release:

“To start, the product will feature faster downloads, more seeds, no mining, and backward compatibility. It is adapted to the world we live in today: mobile, connected, and transparent. We aim to eventually empower all content creators and their communities by eliminating the middleman and enabling content creators to distribute directly to users.”

The below video was made by the chief developer of the Atlas project, Justin Knoll.

Knoll states that even without the TRON/BitTorrent deal, BitTorrent would have incentivized uploaders/seeders to deliver higher speeds. A few days ago, Tron Foundation Founder Justin Sun discussed implementing a token-based ecosystem within BitTorrent.

The new functionalities are optional and voluntary so that every BitTorrent user can continue to use the platform for free like before. The payment function can be used by the community on an as-needed basis. How popular this new feature becomes remains to be seen.

Tron for Gaming

Separately, blockchain gaming platform BitGuild has unveiled its first game to run on the TRON blockchain. The game is dubbed “Magic Academy” and was released on Sept. 29 by Sun at a conference. The goal of the game is to use a sorcerer to mine a cryptocurrency dubbed Jade token. The more wizards that are involved, the faster the mining process goes. Jade tokens are fully tradeable and based on the new TRC20 standard.

Within the game, there are also rare items that can be purchased with TRX. To save token owner credentials, BitGuild has developed a browser-based wallet called Treasure.

Founded last year by Jared Psigoda, BitGuild is committed to revolutionizing the gaming industry. Five more blockchain-fueled games are in the pipeline and are expected to be released by year-end.

Tron (TRX), the No. 13 cryptocurrency based on market cap, is currently trading modestly lower.
