Huawei the Telecommunications and smartphone provider is the latest tech giant from China that has launched a Blockchain-as-a-service (BaaS) platform.

The launch was announced at Huawei’s analyst conference in Shenzhen on Tuesday (17th April), the organization’s new platform, named Blockchain Service, is said to empower organizations to create Smart Contracts over a distributed ledger network for a few use case situations.

Huawei has been an active member and contributor to, the Linux Foundation’s Hyperledger Blockchain Consortium right from October 2016.

Hu Ruifeng, a Huawei engineer who additionally was a co-author of the project’s white paper ahead of the launch, he said that the new BaaS solution has been based on the Hyperledger Fabric 1.0.

As announced by CoinDesk, Hyperledger Fabric 1.0 version was first issued back in July 2017 and denoted an important milestone for the open-source software as it advanced towards production enabled status for big business application development.

The white paper also states that the BaaS platform presently permits customers to build smart contract applications that are concentrated on tokenized securities assets, public services like ID verification, supply chain, and financial auditing.

The launch provides further evidence of Huawei’s latest technological development and its ambitions regarding the Blockchain technology.

It also shows the recent efforts by Huawei engineer Zhou Haojun to develop Project Caliper – a software developed to test the performance of several huge Blockchains.

Huawei’s effort further displays the acceptance of Blockchain technology by several Chinese tech and internet companies as Baidu and Tencent also just recently launched their own respective Blockchain service platforms.

Notably, a plan bearing resemblance to Huawei was announced just last month by E-commerce giant JD.com.
